I’m looking to host a weekend away for my friends and their families. I plan to cater the majority of the weekend and would likely get people to pay for their accommodation, at least in part.
I like the idea of everyone having their own sleeping spaces but eating and relaxing together. We’re a very mellow group, I don’t drink (although some of the party do) so the festivities would be fairly low key. We’d want to swim and hike during the day and braai in the evenings.
I don’t have confirmed numbers at the moment but it would likely be around 40 people. Mostly people can be paired in rooms but there are a couple of families that might need chalets.
My birthday is October 26th so I’d be looking at the weekend before or after that, perhaps there will be a price difference due to in season starting?

Good morning.

This just a follow-up email with some of my observations after my chat with the manager when we checked out yesterday.

We arrived on Monday afternoon after a very long and taxing drive.

While we were filling out the forms at reception the receptionist was chatting to guests who had just checked in before us and she was explaining the booklet to them, going through the booklet explaining that this page is a message from the manager…. this page is info about the lodge….. this page is about the facilities….. etc etc.

When it came to our turn, my wife said to the receptionist that she didn’t have to explain as we were checking out early the next morning and wouldn’t be using any of the facilities. The receptionist then turned to me and started explaining to me.

It might seem like a small thing but I find two things fairly odd. Firstly, Kagga Kamma is meant to be an “Eco Lodge”….. why are you printing such a massive amount when the booklet could just as easily be printed once and put in a file in the room. (besides the fact that the printing is of particularly poor quality and mostly printed skew on the page to the extent that some of it could not be read as it extended off the page). Secondly, it puzzles me why she would want to explain a booklet to me that I can clearly see what it contains…. some guests might find it quite demeaning that you assume they are not intelligent enough to find their way around a simple booklet.

Then we arrived at the chalet (#13) which surprized me as most accommodation establishments I have ever been in don’t have a room (or sometimes even a floor) 13. You might say that you don’t pander to superstition but you tie yourself closely to the local indigenous people (you use the emblem all over your signage) and if ever there was place for superstition / beliefs it was in their culture.

Also the placement of the septic tank and breather absolutely astounds me. It is placed right adjacent to the “entertainment” area where one would braai and supposedly sit and relax. The stench from the septic tank made that impossible.

I also mentioned when we checked out the next morning that the shower wasn’t working because the geyser kept giving an alarm whenever the hot water was turned on. The manager offered an excuse that it was probably just the gas. Surely this is one of the most important things that should be checked before new guests arrive. Especially as there is no communication method to get hold of reception / maintenance to sort out the issue….. especially when it would entail getting dressed and climbing into my vehicle to drive to reception.

Altogether all of the above made for an extremely underwhelming experience….. not at all what I was expecting.

We would ideally prefer something that is not self-catering, but this isn’t a deal breaker. Ill be joining my sister on the Friday evening, the night before the wedding the Friday the 20th of March. She has already added the extra fee of the star / sky suite to her invoice for me – but she mentioned I need to book with you first a simple hut suite. ( Could you send me a payment link? )
If for some reason this is not possible at all for Friday then – A seperate question she mentioned I should chat with you about getting dropped off at the accomodation as its abit further. Would there be any option for someone to drop us off there any time on the Saturday morning to drop our bags off in case the friday eveing did not work out we would love to have the option to stay there the saturday night ( star/sky suite) and to at least drop off our bags in daylight if we had to sleep there on the Saturday evening of the wedding. We will also have our own high clearance vehicle, if this would be allowed for us to take ourselves there but we would really appreciate having the option to go there once on the Saturday before the wedding.

Is the reason people have to book a hut cave first in case they get too scared and want to sleep inside?

We’re planning our itinerary for travel in May 2026. We are keen to book your venue but may need to check in after 19:00. So have a no. of questions:
1) Would a late check-in after 19:00 be possible?
2) Travel after dark near Cape Town CBD is not recommended. Is taht the same for Kagga Kamma area?
3) We’ll be travelling from Langebaan – can you recommend the safest travel route?
4) Do international guests have troiuble finding your venue and therefore could travelling in the dark make it more difficlt to find?
5) I’ve read that mobile reception is poor in the area – if we managed to get a local mobile contract at the airport – which provider has the best signal in the area?
6) And from which point onwards (or town) are we ikely to loose signal?
